What does an Exaktbox actually do?
The purpose of an Exaktbox is to move loudspeaker crossover processing away from a traditional passive network and into the digital domain.
Incoming audio is processed according to the requirements of the compatible loudspeaker configuration, creating individual signal channels before digital-to-analogue conversion.
Klimax Exaktbox provides six of these channels, making it suitable for compatible Exakt systems requiring multiple independently processed outputs.
The exact configuration depends on the loudspeakers and wider system, which is why Exaktbox specification should always begin with the complete system architecture rather than the component in isolation.

Digital crossover processing is only one part of the Klimax Exaktbox signal path.
Once each channel has been processed, digital audio must be converted into an analogue signal for the next stage of the system. Klimax Exaktbox incorporates Organik DAC technology for this conversion process.
This brings Linn’s premium DAC architecture directly into a multi-channel Exakt configuration rather than requiring a separate conversion stage for each processed signal.

Klimax Exaktbox or Exaktbox-I?
Two very different approaches to Exakt
Klimax Exaktbox and Exaktbox-I both perform Exakt crossover processing, but they are designed around different system architectures.
The Linn Klimax Exaktbox is a six-channel Exakt digital crossover incorporating Organik DAC technology. Exaktbox-I is an eight-channel Exakt digital crossover incorporating Katalyst DAC technology and eight channels of 100 W amplification.
This means the choice should not simply be based on which model sits higher in the range. It depends on the loudspeakers, amplification strategy, required number of channels and overall Exakt system design.
Not a universal add-on
Compatibility needs to be designed around the loudspeakers
An Exaktbox is not a generic upgrade that can simply be inserted into any system. The number of channels required and the way those channels are configured depend on the compatible loudspeakers and wider Exakt architecture. A six-channel Klimax Exaktbox may therefore form one part of a larger configuration depending on the particular loudspeaker system.
