Description
The C22 2-Channel Vacuum Tube Preamplifier Mk V is a fully analog device featuring a classic retro design, utilizing five 12AX7A and one 12AT7 vacuum tubes visible through a glass top panel. As the latest iteration in the revered C22 lineage, it serves as the direct successor to the acclaimed C70 Limited Edition 70th Anniversary model from 2019, combining the high performance of the C70 with the iconic C22 styling, including a signature glass and aluminum front panel. The preamplifier offers a total of seven inputs, including two balanced, three unbalanced, and dedicated Moving Coil and Moving Magnet phono inputs. It provides two pairs each of balanced and unbalanced outputs, allowing signals to be sent to two separate power amplifiers. The front panel includes by passable bass and treble tone controls adjustable in 2dB increments, as well as rotary knobs for impedance and capacitance settings on the phono inputs.
The volume control also adjusts the left-right channel balance, while a ¼” headphone jack is powered by a High Drive headphone amplifier featuring McIntosh’s Headphone Cross feed Director (HXD®) technology, enhancing sound localization when using headphones. The C22 Mk V incorporates Power Control technology with four ports to automate power for connected McIntosh components, along with data ports for controlling source devices via the included remote. Housed in a polished stainless steel chassis with illuminated logos, control knobs, and aluminum end caps, the preamplifier’s black glass and aluminum front panel design offers a timeless aesthetic that complements McIntosh systems from the 1950s to today.
