Advanced Connectivity and Personalized Listening

The McIntosh C2800 offers three stereo pairs of variable balanced and unbalanced outputs, allowing simultaneous connection to multiple power amplifiers and up to three separate audio systems. The Main output and Output 1 feature adjustable high-pass and low-pass filters for bi-amping configurations, enabling users to pair different amplifier types with high- and low-frequency sections of compatible speakers. Output 1 also includes trim-level control for balancing amplifier volumes, while Output 2 can be configured for mono or stereo operation to connect a mono subwoofer, two stereo subwoofers, or a separate audio system in another room.

Processor Loop for External Components

The C2800 brings back the dedicated Processor Loop, featuring unbalanced Send and Return connections for integrating external audio processors without placing them between the preamplifier and power amplifier. Compatible devices include environmental equalizers, room-correction systems, dynamic-range expanders and other signal-processing equipment. The loop can also accommodate analogue tape recorders, cassette decks and three-head reel-to-reel recorders, allowing users to monitor recordings shortly after they are made.

Network Connectivity and App Control

With network connectivity, the C2800 supports the McIntosh Connect app for compatible Android and Apple devices, providing convenient control of key functions such as volume, input selection and output selection. Compatible McIntosh source components connected through data cables can also offer selected controls through the app, including functions such as tuner station selection and CD playback. Network connectivity additionally enables firmware updates that can introduce new features and performance improvements.

Smart Home Integration

The C2800 features Connects with Control4 certification, using the Simple Device Discovery Protocol (SDDP) to support integration with compatible Control4 automation systems. It is also certified as Works with Crestron Home, enabling integration with supported Crestron smart-home systems for convenient centralised control.

Additional Performance Features of the McIntosh C2800

The McIntosh C2800 features electronic bass and treble controls that allow precise low- and high-frequency adjustments in 1 dB increments, with the tone-control bypass setting remembered separately for each input. Its high-drive headphone amplifier incorporates Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD®) technology to enhance the headphone listening experience.

Home Theater PassThru enables seamless integration with a home theatre system, while its Roon Tested designation supports reliable integration with Roon music management software. Power Control allows connected McIntosh components to be switched on and off conveniently, and Data Ports transmit remote-control commands to compatible source components. Electromagnetic input switching provides reliable, quiet switching with minimal distortion, while Level Trim Adjustment helps match analogue input levels and prevent sudden volume changes when switching sources.

A precision balanced, digitally controlled attenuator system delivers accurate volume adjustment in 0.1 dB increments. Fully regulated power supplies and a dedicated R-core power transformer support stable, low-noise operation. An energy-saving power management system automatically switches the unit off after 30 minutes of inactivity, with the option to disable this function.
