The McIntosh MA252 is a 2-channel hybrid integrated amplifier that marks McIntosh’s first venture into hybrid amplification, blending classic design with modern performance. Inspired by the iconic MC275 Vacuum Tube Amplifier, the MA252 features Hybrid Drive™ technology, which combines the warmth and musicality of vacuum tubes with the power and precision of solid-state circuits. Its preamplifier stage utilizes two 12AX7a and two 12AT7 vacuum tubes, housed in protective cages for both aesthetic and functional purposes. The solid-state output stage is direct coupled and delivers 100 watts per channel into 8-ohm speakers or 160 watts per channel into 4-ohm speakers, offering robust performance for a wide range of systems. This is a fully analog design, equipped with one balanced, two unbalanced, and one Moving Magnet phono input, allowing turntable compatibility. Each input can be custom-named for ease of use, and bass and treble tone controls provide personalized sound shaping. A dedicated subwoofer output is also included for integrating a powered subwoofer, enhancing low-frequency performance and offering greater system flexibility.
