Description
Ideal for 2-Channel Audio Systems Vacuum Tube
The McIntosh MC275 is one of the most iconic amplifiers ever created an engineering masterpiece whose legacy spans more than six decades. First introduced in 1961, the MC275 quickly became a favorite among audiophiles due to its remarkable ability to drive the demanding loudspeakers of its era with high power and exceptionally low distortion. Although discontinued in 1971 during the rise of transistor technology, its story didn’t end there. The amplifier returned triumphantly in 1993 as a commemorative edition honoring McIntosh co-founder Gordon Gow, earning overwhelming praise and reestablishing itself as an irreplaceable part of the McIntosh lineup. Today, the MC275 is a symbol of timeless audio engineering, celebrated worldwide for its warm, lifelike, and effortlessly musical performance.
Now in its sixth generation, the MC275 features numerous refinements that elevate its sonic capabilities while preserving the magic that made the original legendary. Its advanced output transformer design delivers the widest bandwidth ever achieved in a McIntosh tube amplifier, offering tighter bass control, superior dynamic stability, and a remarkably quiet thermal footprint. The result is pure, emotionally engaging sound with the signature richness and smoothness that only vacuum tubes can provide. Whether you're rediscovering beloved recordings or exploring new music, the MC275 transforms every listening session into a deeply immersive experience.
The MC275 supports both stereo and mono operation. In stereo mode, it outputs 75 watts per channel into 4, 8, or 16 Ohm speakers; in mono mode, it delivers 150 watts into 2, 4, or 8 Ohms. This consistency is made possible by McIntosh’s patented Unity Coupled Circuit output transformers, originally developed in 1949 and still regarded as one of the most advanced transformer technologies in high-end audio. Four KT88 output tubes power the amplifier, supported by four 12AT7 and three 12AX7A small-signal tubes that handle input, voltage, and driver stages. Balanced and unbalanced inputs allow seamless integration with a variety of preamplifiers and systems.
The MC275 is also designed with intelligent protection and reliability features. Sentry Monitor™, McIntosh’s fuse-less short-circuit protection system, prevents damage by disengaging the output stage when current exceeds safe limits and automatically resets once conditions normalize. Gold-plated Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts ensure a secure, corrosion-resistant connection to speaker cables. The amplifier’s seven small tubes glow amber on startup before turning green to signal readiness, while a red glow indicates tube failure an intuitive visual status system appreciated by enthusiasts and professionals alike.
A timeless visual icon, the MC275 features polished stainless-steel accents, beautifully laid-out tube arrays, and classic McIntosh craftsmanship that stands proudly in any audio setup. With its unmatched heritage, musical finesse, and modern engineering enhancements, the MC275 remains one of the most revered vacuum tube amplifiers ever built.
