Vintage Outside

On the exterior, the ML1 Mk II echoes the look and feel of the original model with a cabinet made from oiled American walnut solid wood and veneers, finished in a warm satin texture. Its magnetically attached wooden grille, wrapped in acoustically transparent cloth, preserves the retro aesthetic while removing the vertical slats that once interfered with sound dispersion. The design instantly brings back the nostalgic mood of the 1970s, inviting you into a relaxed, immersive listening experience.

Cutting-edge Inside

The ML1 Mk II has been fully redesigned with modern, high-performance components, making it a true reference speaker for precise, natural sound reproduction. It is a 4-way system with five drivers, arranged symmetrically to ensure consistent tonal balance and imaging across the room. The low end is handled by a 12" woofer in a sealed cabinet, delivering tight, controlled bass, while two 4" lower midrange drivers in a sealed sub-enclosure provide clear and powerful mid-bass response. The midrange is further refined by a 2" soft-dome upper midrange driver, which reproduces natural, detailed vocals and instruments, and a ¾" titanium dome tweeter extends the high frequencies with clarity and precision.

All upper-frequency drivers are mounted on a precision-milled transition plate, which improves imaging and reduces off-axis lobing, ensuring a wide and accurate soundstage. The cabinet features internal bracing to minimize vibrations, while the advanced crossover design avoids the critical 1kHz vocal range, maintaining crystal-clear, natural-sounding vocals. The ML1 Mk II combines careful engineering with musical artistry, delivering an immersive listening experience that is both powerful and refined.

Powerful by Design

Built to handle up to 600 watts, the ML1 Mk II thrives with high-power amplifiers like the MC611 or MC462, yet performs beautifully even with lower-power models such as the MC275 or MC312. For ultimate performance, it can also be bi-amped using the McIntosh MC451.

Deep Bass from 12" Woofer with LD/HP Technology

With bass extending down to 27Hz, the ML1 Mk II delivers deep, authoritative low frequencies without requiring a subwoofer in most rooms. Its 12" woofer uses McIntosh’s patented LD/HP® (Low Distortion/High Performance) magnetic circuit to achieve exceptional precision and power handling. Modern simulation and tuning give the ML1 the same bass impact as the original ML1 but without the need for an external equalizer.

Finishing Touches

Handcrafted in the USA, the ML1 Mk II includes a matching speaker stand tailored for ideal height and imaging. The stand features a vintage die-cast McIntosh badge and comes with interchangeable feet for hard floors or carpet. The speakers may also be placed directly on the floor or on a sturdy surface.
