Description
The McIntosh MT2 Precision Turntable is a refined, high-performance analog system designed to bring the warmth, depth, and authenticity of vinyl into any modern home audio setup. Featuring a moving magnet phono cartridge and engineered with the latest advancements in turntable technology, the MT2 delivers superb musical accuracy with long-term reliability.
Its understated green illumination beneath the platter and along the edges of the plinth adds a subtle, elegant glow that reflects classic McIntosh design while enhancing the ambience of any listening space.
Virtually ready to use out of the box, the MT2 supports both 33⅓ and 45 rpm playback, requiring only minimal setup before your record collection comes to life. Lyd & Bilde praised it as a “well-built, great sounding record player… made for people who love vinyl,” highlighting its rich tonality, solid bass, and smooth overall balance.
Equipped with the Sumiko Moonstone cartridge a next-generation moving magnet phono pickup the MT2 reads grooves with exceptional precision. The Moonstone’s low-mass design and elliptical diamond stylus extract remarkable texture, depth, and clarity from every recording, maintaining a nearly silent background for lifelike imaging without harshness or distortion.
The MT2’s tonearm, built from lightweight yet rigid dural-aluminum, incorporates advanced damping materials to ensure stable tracking and clean audio reproduction. Noise-free vertical bearings with precision ceramic surfaces and damping fluid, paired with a gimballed sapphire horizontal bearing, contribute to ultra-smooth, low-friction movement. Tracking Angle noted that the MT2 sounded “sweet and enticing” while also capable of delivering satisfying energy and dynamic slam when the music demands it.
At the mechanical core, the MT2 features a belt-driven, solid black POM outer platter over an inch thick to resist vibration and deliver stable rotational speed. Its mass provides ideal flywheel momentum, while the CNC-milled aluminum inner platter ensures perfect alignment and durability.
Both platters rotate on a polished steel shaft supported by a sintered bronze bushing, engineered for frictionless, quiet operation. The DC motor is powered by an external, voltage-stabilized supply and fully decoupled from the chassis, eliminating mechanical noise that could interfere with playback.
The plinth combines a resonance-optimized, highly compressed wood base finished in elegant black lacquer with layered acrylic plates to further suppress unwanted vibrations. The result is a presentation that Sound+Image described as “rock-solid,” delivering bass authority, high-frequency precision, and an engrossing musical experience that pulls listeners in effortlessly.
A clear, contoured dust cover is included for protection, and the MT2 integrates seamlessly with McIntosh phono preamplifiers, stereo preamps, integrated amplifiers, and home theater processors. Versatile, beautifully engineered, and musically expressive, the McIntosh MT2 Precision Turntable is an ideal entry into premium analog playback and a superb addition to any McIntosh audio system.
