Description
The Parasound Halo JC3 Jr. is a high-performance phono preamplifier featuring circuitry designed by legendary audio engineer John Curl and a circuit board layout by Carl Thompson. It supports Moving Magnet (MM), Moving Coil (MC), and Moving Iron (MI) cartridges with a 47k-ohm input setting and variable MC impedance adjustment from 50 to 550 ohms. Selectable gain settings provide 40 dB, 50 dB, or 60 dB for unbalanced outputs and 46 dB, 56 dB, or 66 dB for balanced outputs, offering flexibility for different cartridge and system requirements.
With balanced and unbalanced outputs, RIAA equalisation accuracy within 0.2 dB, a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 94 dB, and total harmonic distortion below 0.02%, the JC3 Jr. is engineered for accurate and detailed vinyl playback. Vishay-Dale resistors are used in the audio path, while an aluminium shield separates the power supply from the audio circuits to help minimise interference. A shielded toroidal power transformer, high-speed soft-recovery bridge rectifiers, and common-mode inductors further support clean signal performance. The preamplifier also features Vampire 24k gold-plated RCA jacks, locking Neutrik XLR balanced output connectors, and a mono switch designed to improve playback of mono recordings and older LPs. Convenient automatic power-on via a 12V trigger allows integration with compatible audio systems. Its compact 1U chassis, measuring 2.5 inches high including feet, makes it suitable for space-conscious audio setups.
