Description
Drop the JC5 into your system and the room changes. Bass hits deeper without bloat, vocals float free of the speakers, and big crescendos stay calm and composed power with finesse that makes everything feel more alive.
Designed by John Curl, the JC5 focuses on what matters: high‑bias Class A/AB with the first 12 W in pure Class A, 400 W x2 into 8 Ω (600 W x2 into 4 Ω), a 1.7 kVA toroidal transformer with 132,000 µF of storage, and 90 A peak current with safe handling of 1.5‑Ω impedance dips.
The Parasound Halo JC 5 is a stereo power amplifier designed by John Curl, delivering 400 watts per channel into 8 ohms with both channels driven, 600 watts into 4 ohms, and 1,200 watts bridged into mono. The first 12 watts per channel operate in pure Class A before transitioning to Class AB.
The JC 5 is built around dual-mono input stages running on plus/minus 110 volt DC rails, 24 beta-matched 15 ampere, 60 MHz bipolar output transistors, and a 1.7 kVA shielded toroidal transformer with independent windings for each channel. Filter capacitance totals 132,000 microfarads of Rubycon capacitors for the output stages and 8,880 microfarads of Nichicon Gold Tune capacitors for the input stages. ProHiFi is an authorised Parasound dealer in India.
Peak current capacity is 90 amps per channel and the amplifier remains stable into speaker impedance dips down to 1.5 ohms. The signal path is direct-coupled with no capacitors or inductors in the audio chain. JFET input stages feed MOSFET drivers and bipolar output transistors, a topology John Curl has refined across decades of amplifier design.
Features
The Parasound Halo JC 5 John Curl-Designed Two-Channel Power Amplifier is a high-performance amplifier engineered to deliver powerful, precise, and controlled audio reproduction. Designed by renowned audio engineer John Curl, it delivers 400 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 600 watts per channel into 4 ohms, with both channels driven, and can provide 1,200 watts into 8 ohms in bridged mono mode. Its ultra-high-bias Class A/AB operation delivers 12 watts per channel of pure Class A power, combining refined sound reproduction with substantial power reserves. The amplifier features a JFET input stage, MOSFET driver stage, and bipolar output stage, supported by 24 beta-matched bipolar output transistors rated at 15 amperes and 60 MHz. With a peak current capability of 90 amperes per channel and stability with speaker impedance dips to 1.5 ohms, the JC 5 is designed to drive compatible, demanding loudspeakers with confidence.
Its robust power supply incorporates a 1.7 kVA shielded toroidal transformer and 132,000 µF of Rubycon filter capacitance to support consistent power delivery during dynamic musical passages. The direct-coupled signal path eliminates capacitors and inductors from the main audio chain, while Neutrik balanced XLR and Vampire gold-plated RCA inputs, each with loop outputs, provide flexible system connectivity. Custom CHK Infinium five-way speaker binding posts accommodate a variety of speaker cable terminations, and 12V trigger and audio-sensing automatic turn-on features simplify system operation. Measuring 448 × 508 × 197 mm and weighing 33.1 kg, the JC 5 combines substantial construction with a choice of black or silver finishes. Its industry recognition includes Hi-Fi News Outstanding Product 2018, SoundStage! Reviewers' Choice 2019, and HTR Best of 2018, making it a compelling option for premium stereo systems and high-performance home theatre installations.
Ideal Applications of the Parasound Halo JC 5
The Parasound Halo JC 5 is ideal for high-performance two-channel audio systems that require 400 watts or more per channel for powerful, dynamic sound reproduction. Its high current capability and stability with speaker impedance dips to 1.5 ohms make it suitable for compatible, demanding loudspeakers that require substantial power and control. It pairs well with premium components such as the Parasound JC 2 BP preamplifier, making it a strong choice for a high-end stereo setup. Its bridged mono capability also offers flexibility for users who may wish to explore a higher-powered monoblock configuration in the future. For home theatre installations, the JC 5 can serve as a reference-grade stereo amplifier for front-channel speakers, delivering powerful and controlled performance for films and music. Its 12 watts per channel of pure Class A operation also appeals to listeners who value refined, detailed sound reproduction at typical listening levels.
