The PC-662P in-ceiling loudspeaker proudly carries the signature design language of the Olympica Nova collection, highlighted by a refined leather finish that elegantly frames the tweeter, reinforcing its family heritage. Engineered for optimal performance when front speakers cannot be wall-mounted, its angled driver layout is specially designed to direct sound toward the listening area, ensuring immersive and focused audio reproduction. The speaker includes a sleek, edgeless round magnetic grille that can be easily painted to blend seamlessly with any décor, while a square grille is available as an optional accessory. Installation is both quick and secure, thanks to the swing-out dog mounting system that locks the speaker firmly into plasterboard surfaces. For new construction projects, a dedicated pre-mount kit is offered as an optional add-on to streamline the setup process.

At the heart of the speaker’s sonic performance is the Paracross Topology™ crossover network, which is crafted to reduce resonance and enriched with custom Sonus faber-branded capacitors for high-fidelity sound. The high-frequency driver is a DAD™ (Damped Apex Dome) silk dome tweeter, known for its natural and detailed treble reproduction. Complementing it is a mid-woofer constructed from a custom diaphragm made of natural fiber and cellulose pulp, further enhancing the speaker's organic and lifelike sound signature.

Amplifier Output Power Requirements VS. Listening Distance (Per Single  Channel)*

When designing an audio system for in-ceiling speakers like the PC-662P, it is important to match the amplifier power output to the intended listening distance to achieve optimal performance. This ensures the desired sound pressure level (SPL) is maintained without distortion.

To achieve a direct SPL of 85 dB at varying distances, the continuous power requirement per channel increases with distance. At 1.5 meters, only 11.3 watts are needed, but this jumps to 32 watts at 2.5 meters and further up to 80 watts at 4 meters. This represents typical continuous music or program material, using an IEC test signal which simulates real-world audio with wide dynamic range.

For peak power output, which is necessary for handling dynamic musical peaks without distortion, the amplifier must deliver even more. At 1.5 meters, 45 watts peak are needed, rising sharply to 125 watts at 2.5 meters and 320 watts at 4 meters. These figures reflect the power needed to reproduce music with full fidelity and headroom at greater listening distances.

On the other hand, when the source signal is a simple 1 kHz sine tone—more similar to speech or narrow-band signals—the power requirements are much lower. To maintain the same 85 dB SPL, the peak power needed ranges from just 2.9 watts at 1.5 meters to 20 watts at 4 meters. This shows how much less demanding speech content is in terms of amplification.

The stark difference between the sine wave and IEC signal examples highlights the importance of understanding your system’s intended use. Speech and narrowband content can be effectively delivered with modest power, while music and full-range audio require amplifiers with significantly higher capacity, especially in larger spaces.
